Lebron averages more PPG on a higher FG% than Kobe.

I disagree with this to an extent. Kobe has a more polished all-around offensive game and can score in a wider variety of ways.

Lebron is better at every other aspect of the game of basketball.

LeBron is a smarter scorer than Kobe and is better at making the correct read on a play.

Lebron is more efficient and makes better decisions when scoring. Kobe can just shoot outside better.

Lebron also shoots a higher 3P% while averaging more attempts per game.

fg% is meaningless, unless you think Deandre Jordan is better than Lebron.
Comparing strictly a center to a SF/SG is pure stupid. Comparing Lebron and kobe makes sense cause they essentially play the same.

point SF and pure SG are very different positions. Learn the game, son.
Lebron doesn't play like a guard with the ball in his hands like Kobe? I do believe he does. Comparing FG% between those 2 makes perfect sense but i understand you are mad cause your boy doesn't hold a candle to him.

FG% is not meaningless. And Deandre Jordan averages less than 10 PPG. He doesn't shoot nearly as much, so he can't possibly be a better scorer than LeBron. LeBron averages more career PPG on a higher career FG% and a higher career 3 pt %. Kobe is a better midrange shooter, I'll give you that, but LeBron makes smarter decisions with the ball, which is why he is a better, smarter scorer than Kobe.

LeBron can lead the league in scoring if he wants. And LeBron has his own game. Kobe is just an imitation of Jordan without Jordan's hops. LeBron can do everything Kobe can do, including the post if he wants to. LeBron holds back on scoring so as to be a general manager of the game. And this is the reason why LeBron can coexist with scrubs and why Kobe can barely make the playoffs with Dwight.

oh and FG% is not meaningless. It is not absolute but it is definitely not meaningless. It is a high indicator of intelligence in making the proper shot selection vis a vis passing up a bad shot which potentially brings about an assist as opposed to a missed shot with the opponent getting the ball.

oh Bird, Magic, Jordan etc all regularly shot over 50%.

2006 Kobe: 35ppg 5rpg 5ast 2stl on 56% TS

27 40+ point games, 8 50+ point games and 2 60+ point games. He averaged over 40ppg for the entire months of January and April.

62 points in three quarters.

Yes, Kobe was a Super Chucker (27.2 FGAs/game) on a shitty team that barely made the playoffs. Let's talk PPS (points per shot) for Lebron and Kobe.

In Kobe's highest scoring season (05-06) he averaged 1.301 PPS. In Lebron's (05-06) he averaged 1.359 PPS.

Over their career, Kobe has averaged 1.301 PPS whereas Lebron has averaged 1.382 PPS.

Kobe has a career TS% of 55.5% while Lebron has a TS% of 57.9%.

Kobe is a career 45.4% shooter. Lebron is a career 49.4% shooter.

One season's worth of mega-chucking doesn't make Kobe any better than Lebron. You need more proof than this.

The title says scorer doesn't it? He's jerking himself raw over Durant's scoring run.

Durant is averaging 31.3 on 19.8 FGAs/game. You are calling Kobe's volume scoring better simply because he had more volume. A lot of guys could score a shitload of points shooting 30+ shots most of their games.

Numbers aside, damn the numbers. A player who can score virtually the same amount of points in a more varied assortment of ways from more spots on the floor, should generally be considered the 'better scorer'. There's a reason why only Kobe or Durant or Carmelo are capable of putting up astronomical scoring games such as Kobe's 81, or his 62 in 3, or 61 in MSG. It's because once a defense keys him, he finds a different way to score, once the defense aims to stuff that, he finds another, and another, and another, all with an overwhelming amount of defensive attention crowding him. Is it conducive toward overall great team basketball? No. Does it make him the smarter scorer? Not in a 5 on 5 format. Does it make him the better scorer? You're god damn right it does.

Lebron's recent acclimation toward a more all around scoring game the last couple years, with an improved post, mid, and long range game has me leaning more toward Lebron as he enters the backend of his career. But, Kobe's been the versatile scorer he is since his 3rd or 4th season in the league. Been doing it for far longer, with a finished polish Jordan himself would have to look up to.

As for right now, on January 28th, 2014 8:30am gun to my head. I still say Kobe's been the better scorer.

Solid analysis. I think Kobe has the better arsenal overall, but stats don't lie either. That Lebron is even being considered in this discussion speaks volumes about his abilities.
