I think the obvious answer to what has changed is the dissolution of the core that kept winning titles or at least winning regularly together. Phil, Pau, Fisher, Kobe, and sometimes Bynum all playing at a high level kept getting it done. That changed once Phil left and the cascading free agency/trades/injuries settled in.
