This week, Bobby Marks of ESPN published a story about the intriguing terms of Isaac’s new Magic contract. Recently, Isaac consented to a new five-year, $84 million contract that included an addition of four years and a renegotiate of his 2024–25 salary. On paper, the relocation will keep Isaac in Orlando until 2028–2029.
According to Marks, Isaac’s agreement protects the Magic during the third and fifth years. For starters, if Isaac participates in at least 52 games in the 2025–26 season, his $14.5 million pay for the next season will be fully guaranteed. If, however, Isaac falls short of that threshold, the Magic will be able to waive him and will only be responsible for $8 million over the next three seasons.
That arrangement makes complete sense in light of Isaac’s problematic injury history. Since being selected in the 2017 draft, the 26-year-old former No. 6 overall pick has appeared in just 205 games altogether. Isaac missed the entire 2020–21 and 2021–22 seasons as a result of an ACL tear.
The 6-foot-10 Isaac, when healthy, is an offensive force on defense who, as a reserve, fills in many gaps for Orlando. During the previous season, Isaac also averaged 6.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and impressive 51/38/72 shooting splits in just 15.8 minutes per game. However, the Magic can easily part ways with Isaac by 2026 if he continues to struggle with injuries. Isaac is also well-known for his outspoken social beliefs.
