I live in Calgary and we have one of the biggest rodeos on earth early in July every year. I've gone to watch maybe 15 times or so.

It escapes me why anyone would ever think it's a good idea to get on the back of a 2,000 pound animal that is intent on destroying you. The pay, relative to the risk, isn't even that great. Those dudes are just wired differently.

I'm friends with a former bull rider who had to quit about 30 years ago after being bucked and suffering a severe back injury. Says he absolutely loved it and doesn't regret it, even though he carries the aches with him every day of his life. Like I said, that just doesn't compute with me.

Wired differently 100%. Just holding on without getting tossed looks painful as hell. I’m sure the adrenaline rush is why they keep at it, I’d imagine it’s not a very lucrative career choice.
