I think what we've learned about Durant in these last few seasons is he isn't a #1 anymore. He's better as an overqualified 2nd option.

I doubt this same Suns team comes into next year without at least one of Booker, Durant, or Beal being gone. Possibly 2 of them will be gone.

Vogel will be fired too.

Putting together "great" players doesn't always lead to great outcomes....particularly in Year 1. Basketball needs familiarity, chemistry.

Putting together a hodge-podge of 3 good-to-great scorers with no other attention paid to defense or ballhandling was clearly a terrible idea in Phoenix.

Durant should have went to MIA when Pat Riley recruited him in 2019. He might have won another ring and even if he didn't he would have got a lot closer than he did the last five years.

KD has ruined his legacy, between Brooklyn and Phoenix. Who knows, maybe he wins another one or two in his twilight, but it seems unlikely.

If he had continued to hitch his wagon to Curry and the Warriors, he'd have several more rings and both would be clearly seen as top 10 all time guys. The likelihood of KD ever reaching top 10 on most peoples' lists seems pretty remote now.

Booker simply isn't a leader, and Durant at 35 shouldn't be held to that level anymore, either. But to lose these playoffs the way they did, with their star power, is inexcusable. And not just swept right the fuck out, they were thoroughly emasculated. Scoring under 100 not once but twice? Ant Edwards was just toying with them.

Do you think his fortunes would have been different if he went to Miami when Pat Riley tried to recruit him in 2019?

Maybe. Who knows right? But there would have been a much better chance of that with your wagon hitched to Riley and Spoelstra than with Brooklyn and now Phoenix.

It is a more interesting question with LeBron and if he had stayed in Miami with only two stops in his career, being the original Cleveland days and the rest with Miami.

Obviously going back to Cleveland and winning a ring there against the 73 win Warriors made a big part of his legacy. And ditto, winning a ring with the Lakers always has more juice because well, it's the Lakers. But if he had stayed with Spo and Riley and they had managed to get 2 or 3 more rings after Wade and Bosh, that would have arguably been more powerful.

No "great" player has played with more high-level "in their prime" players than Kevin Durant. His career, from a winning perspective, is an abject failure.

That's a little harsh, but true. He had Harden and Westbrook when those guys were at or near the top of their game and with other quality role players. Outside of his time with Curry, has never won anything that matters. No other good playoff runs, outside of the one finals at OKC that I can recall.

If he went to Miam in 2019 he would have had what he wanted which was to be the best player on a perennial contender. That's all a star can ask for

It wouldn't be more than MPJ and picks/swaps if they made the trade.

No chance they part with Jokic or Murray.

I doubt they'd even part with Gordon who has been good for them.

The curry fan in me wants to dunk on him to elevate Curry, but frankly Curry is kind of washed now too. These guys are older.

Since we count both Magic and Kareems championships when ranking them all time, we should count Curry's and Durants, even though they played together.

Durant with 2 puts him in the 10-20 range. Curry with 4 is top 10. Both could have been higher with better longevity, but both seem washed already.
