Many years ago, it used to be common to see web pages with blocks of pre-formatted text. Using the <pre> tag to define sections of the page as formatted by the typing itself was a quick and easy way for web designers to get the text to display as they wanted it to. This was before the rise of CSS for layout, when web designers were really stuck trying to force layout by using tables and other HTML-only methods. This (kinda) worked back because pre-formatted text is defined as text in which the structure is defined by typographic conventions rather than by the HTML rendering.

Not yet, but I might try installing this one:

It's for 3.2.x (we're on 3.3.x) and a lot of the database issues we had on the old site were because we tricked old mods into working on that installation. If it is compatible we can definitely do it though (same with thanks).
