Did the Lakers just have the best off season in NBA history?

Post by LeBronMonsterDunk »

Signed:
Marc Gasol
Montrezl Harrell
Dennis Schroder
Wesley Matthews

Re-signed:

Anthony Davis
Kentavious Caldwell Pope
Markief Morris

Extended:

LeBron James

Lost:
Danny Green
Rajon Rondo
Javale McGee
Dwight Howard
Avery Bradley

In the same off season the Lakers resigned/extended two Top 5 players and signed the 6MOY and 6MOY runner up.

Their losses were mostly subpar players, Rondo being the one notable exception. Dwight Howard while good defensively in very particular match ups was only 9th in minutes played in the Playoffs, Javale was 10th. Avery Bradley wasn't even with the team during Playoffs. Danny Green was hot garbage.

Every player they lost was replaced with someone just as good or better.

All of this coming off a Championship win.

Great offseason no doubt. Probably would put it 3rd behind the others listed. There was no doubt that AD and LBJ would re-sign.

This^^^^

AD and LeBron weren't going anywhere.

So basically, the "movement" was in role players. We sacrificed some interior defense in losing Dwight and Javale but got a more well rounded player in Gasol, although his minutes have to be limited obviously at this stage of his career and some much needed bench scoring in Montrezl. Overall, I like that swap, but against some teams (I'm thinking Denver and Portland specifically) we might miss Dwight and/or Javale some.

We swapped out Rondo and Green and Bradley for Schroeder and Matthews. Green wasn't at his best in the bubble obviously, but still a really smart perimeter defender with length, and we could miss that. On the other hand, offensively we got another really solid guy to run the pick and roll in Dennis and he's just entering the best years of his career. Matthews was cheap and hopefully hangs together and fills a decent "3 and D role", although I don't think he's Green. Really happy we got Morris to stay.

I think overall our defense will suffer but our offense, especially on the second unit, will be better. Certified Lakers fans are pleased! :suds:

There was however, doubt about AD signing for five.

Not to be negative, but in year 5 of that contract, will AD still be AD. He was great this season playing for a contract as far as health, but next year and the ones following, may be different

Summer of 96 the Lakers not only added Shaq and Kobe but also drafted the great Derek Fisher. Then a month into the season trading for Robert Horry.

Overall Jerry Wests work that year was even more impressive than the cHeat offseason which was assisted by players collaborating.
