Khabib Nurmagomedov took to Instagram early Monday morning to state that it appears he won't be able to fight in the main event of UFC 249 vs. Tony Ferguson on April 18 because of the travel restrictions associated with the coronavirus pandemic.
He's stuck in Russia.
Incredibly, this matchup might fall through for the fifth time.
Nurmagomedov also said he heard the UFC is looking for a replacement. ESPN's Ariel Helwani reported that Ferguson's camp has been offered a fight against Justin Gaethje.
Is that the right fight to make?
Should an interim title be at stake?
And what about Khabib's future? The devout Muslim won't fight during Ramadan, which is April 23-May 23 this year. And he would like 45 days after Ramadan -- during which he fasts 15 hours per day -- before he begins training.
Conor McGregor kept saying he would step in if the fight fell through. But that was before the pandemic, and McGregor is now leading the fight in Ireland to shut down the country while promoting social distancing.

Now the UFC is looking for another opponent for Tony. I don't get it. Just push the fight back. There are a ton of backlog fighters waiting to fight. Line those up! Don't tie up Tony with another fight. We've waited this long, we can wait a bit longer until this flu runs its course to see these two fight.

Lol Fury/Wilder was great, but come on, outside of those two there's nothing.
There have been plenty great fights in boxing the past year. You’re just a rookie and don’t know any better. Even Fury vs Wilder wasn’t that action packed in comparison to Julian Williams vs Jarrett Hurd, Jose Ramirez vs Maurice Hooker, Errol Spence vs Shawn Porter, Josh Taylor vs Regis Prograis, Naoya Inoue vs Nonito Donaire....
There have definitely been some great boxing fights this past year beyond the heavies.
As far as the UFC, I would prefer they cancel and push everything back.
A silver lining is that they can absolutely load cards in the back half of the year if they wanted to, since everyone will miss at least one regular "cycle" of fights.
