Bulls, Lakers, and NY Yankees have all paid Pat Riley $$$

He trademarked the term three-peat in 1989. Bulls three-peat twice after, Yanks & Lakers in the early 2000s. Any time merchandise is produced using that term, Riley gets royalties from it. In 1993 alone, Riley got almost $300,000 for commercial sales featuring the Bulls three-peat.

not bad for a guy who was 0-4 vs the Bulls during both threepeats.
