Madness recommend me some 2.1 speakers

Post by LeBronMonsterDunk »

I want to try an audiophile grade 2.1 setup on my primary computer rather than the typical PC labeled offerings.

Assume the connection type doesn't matter as it will be hooked up to an external DAC.

Let's set a budget of say $500 or less.

Thanks

For entertainment, consumer speakers by Klipsch, Harmon Kardon, Bose will always get you your money's worth. Bose will usually offer a smaller footprint and unique tuning that some people love, some hate. Usually audiophiles hate, but I personally like how Bose products sound, and have their Lifestyle 650 system at home. I do believe it's way overpriced, but I got a sweet deal on it.

For pro-audio work, in that budget, you want something like these: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... io-monitor" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
K thanks, I'll take a look at those.

I won't be doing anything pro audio related, would those KRK's work for gaming/movie purposes or are they tuned in a way that would make them less than ideal for those things?

Are those monitors designed to be mounted on a wall/tripod or sit on a desk?

Any of the above. If on a desk, I would put some acoustic foam underneath so the sound waves dont vibrate the desk, which will alter the sound.

They are "nearfield monitors" though, so if you put them on stands or on a wall, you dont want them too far away. They're supposed to be close by.

Tuning will be flat. The purpose is accuracy, so you'll theoretically be hearing it as the original sound engineer heard it in terms of frequencies. It'll sound good, but maybe dull. Consumer speakers sweaten it a bit, each in different ways.

In a couple years I'll be in the market again and do a deep dive into researching and I'd be more helpful.
OK cool thanks, I'll check those out and do some more research.

Went to the only Bose store close by yesterday to hear some speakers.

All they had were sound bars and headphones lol...
